RLGN 3172 AAPI Cultures, Religions, and Social Justice

This course will explore how religions, spirituality, and cultural traditions ground and provide strength in the daily lives of different generations of Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI), whether they are immigrants, migrants, assimilated, marginalized, or organized. Through publications of AAPI scholars, community engagement in AAPI-serving religious, cultural, social, and political non-profit organizations, and discussions with AAPI religious experts and civil rights advocates, we will (re)consider trauma-informed, context-appropriate theories and practices of social justice from the depth and breadth of AAPI experiences.
