HIST 3021 Video Games as History

Over the past few decades, video games have portrayed real-life historical events in a similar means of movies and radio-dramas before them. The representation of past events through video games offers unique opportunities and challenges; but, to be certain, their impact on youth’s perception of past historical events is only growing. This course seeks to understand the historical representations in various video games, the positive and negative elements founds in its historical representation, and—similarly as with film—outline theories of how history fictionalization is realized in video games.
