CMS 3606 Digital Culture

This course takes a critical and social scientific approach to digital culture and examines the impact of digital media technologies on how we communicate with and relate to each other. We trace the history of digital media and the rise of what Castell has called the network society. We examine contemporary scholarship and criticism as it relates to digital media theory, participatory culture, identity, privacy, and literacy.
