ENGL 3107 Advanced Writing & Research: Writing the Body

This course looks at the body as a form of text, exploring how gender and identity are represented in writing. Students explore both historical and contemporary views on the body, including nineteenth-century female writers’ treatment of illness and modern memoirs of illness. Through reading and writing exercises, students will explore how writing shapes and is shaped by the body. Prerequisite: passing Effective Communication 1 or its equivalent with a grade of 'C' (2.0) or higher.
