ENGL 3090 Advanced Writing & Research: Transcendent Literatures
Influenced by German philosophers and British romantic poets, nineteenth-century New England writers developed a uniquely American concept of theology and nature that has endured to this day. This course will explore how the writings of Emerson, Thoreau, Whitman, and Fuller not only inspired the revolutionary spiritualism of the Beat poets, but remain a touchstone for today’s ecological and political movements. Prerequisite: passing Effective Communication 1 or its equivalent with a grade of 'C' (2.0) or higher.
