ENGL 2110 Advanced Writing & Research: Environmental Literature
This course explores climate change, environmental justice, and identity through interdisciplinary and multicultural perspectives. We will examine how environmental degradation, displacement, and efforts toward sustainability shape both individual and collective identities. Key questions include: How does the environment influence who we are and where we belong? How do human actions impact the places we inhabit, and how do those changes, in turn, reshape us? What are the effects of environmental disconnection or over-exploitation on communities and ecosystems? Through close readings of essays, literature, poetry, and philosophical texts, we will analyze how stories of place, identity, and environmental justice are told and understood. Various lenses, including cultural, ecological, and geographical theory, will guide our inquiry. Satisfies the Effective Communication 2 Core area with a 'C' (2.0) or higher. Prerequisite: passing Effective Communication 1 or its equivalent with a grade of 'C' (2.0) or higher.
