ENGL 2061 Advanced Writing & Research: Native American Literatures

Introductory studies to the writings by Native American authors from a diversity of North American tribes: Cherokee, Chickasaw, Creek, Kiowa, Laguna, Mohawk, Navajo, Sioux, and others. From oral tradition to contemporary forms of literature, the course examines Native American themes relating to historical, cultural, and societal issues, such as identity, spirit world, earth, and language. Satisfies the Effective Communication 2 Core area with a 'C' (2.0) or higher. Prerequisite: passing Effective Communication 1 or its equivalent with a grade of 'C' (2.0) or higher.
