ENGL 3107 Governing Bodies: Body Text and Contexts

This course reads the visual, corporeal body as text. While offering possibilities for new ways of "seeing" sexed/gendered/textual bodies, students study how past and present sociocultural constructions (society, culture, and history serving as "governing" systems) define and discipline bodies applying theoretical lenses: feminism, men’s studies, trans studies, sociology, and cultural studies, to name a few.
