EDU 5392 Seminar in Family and Professional Partnerships and Practices in Early Childhood Special Education
This course provides students with an overview of the Family Systems Model and highlights the importance of collaborating with families from culturally relevant and inclusive practices. Candidates will learn the importance of family engagement in the IEP/IFSP process to ensure fair and equitable participation within the program. Candidates will engage in self reflection, dialogue, and empathy as essential tools to support families. Along with ensuring candidates are demonstrating skills to be culturally and linguistically appropriate interactions with families to develop a positive relationship with families. Candidates will learn to educate families about their rights, advocacy, and navigate through available resources they may need to support their child within the home setting. Candidates will help families learn how to develop daily routines within the daily living skills and pre academics to promote independent learning.
