PA 5151 Introduction to Evidence-Based Medicine and Health Policy

This course is intended for students to acquire and develop both the knowledge and the skills for incorporating evidence-based recommendations, the peer-reviewed literature, and the clinical guidelines to clinical and health policy decision-making. Students will acquire knowledge and develop skills to determine the validity, the meaning, and the applicability of the evidence base to clinical practice. Students will evaluate research design, critically appraise research methodologies, and select and interpret appropriate statistical analyses. Students will also build on their knowledge of key healthcare and public health policies relevant to clinical practice, including those related to health care financing and current efforts in health reform - 15 week session. Fall I - Phase I.
