ARTH 3014 Global Visual Cultures: Seeing the World

An enticing, wide-ranging introduction to the �visual arts� and �visual literacy,� via emphasis on historical, social, and interpretive issues relevant to the critical analysis of artistic production, meaning, and reception of the material/visual arts produced by diverse world cultures from the past to present. Course coverage includes works of art and architecture from multiple world regions via focus on global �World Heritage Sites� (as designated by UNESCO.) Course goals are to develop student skills in visual perception, cultural awareness, historical geography and chronology, and to enhance their skills as effective visual navigators and communicators in the global world today.
