HIST 3018 East Asia: Past and Present

A survey of the origins of modern East Asia, with particular emphasis on the political, social, cultural, and economics of China, Japan, and Korea. This course will utilize methodologies which promote engagement with local and/or global communities to enhance civic knowledge and/or improve student civic skills relevant to East Asia. While a chronology is utilized to frame the course, we will also study the region thematically to highlight linkages among East Asian societies and the Western world. In this way, the course is designed to create a foundational understanding of East Asia, both historically and in present-times.
