Education Credential Concentrations

The Education Credential Concentrations are Integrated Undergraduate Programs that offer students an accelerated pathway to earning a Bachelor's degree and a Preliminary Teaching Credential in four years. Concentrations are accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and authorize the credential holder to teach in California TK-12 public schools. To earn a Multiple Subject or Single Subject Teacher Credential Concentration, students complete their major coursework, Core coursework, and required subject matter competency (SMC) coursework as specified by the CTC during the first three years of the program. In the fourth year, students complete 600 hours of fieldwork in a TK-12 public school while also taking 32 units of required education preparation coursework online. Students who complete the teaching credential concentration in their major will also receive a minor in education.

For continued enrollment into Year 4 of the teacher credential concentration, students will need to have met the following:

  • A 3.0 Grade Point Average
  • Completed Certificate of Clearance (COC)
  • All Major coursework, Core coursework, and Subject Matter Competency (SMC) Requirements
  • A Child and Adolescent Development (CAD) Course (met through PSY 3120)
  • The U.S. Constitution Requirement (met through HIST 1210)

To advance to student teaching in their final semester, student will need to have me the following in the fall semester, Year 4:

  • Earn at least a “B” grade in all EDU courses
  • Successfully complete fieldwork (140 hours)
  • Successfully teach a practice lesson observed and evaluated by a University Supervisor

To earn a preliminary teaching credential, students will need to have met the following at the conclusion of the spring semester, Year 4:

  • Earn at least a “B” grade in all EDU courses
  • Successfully complete full time student teaching fieldwork, 5 days a week (460 hours)
  • Successfully teach 10 lessons observed and evaluated by a University Supervisor
  • Pass Cycle 1 and Cycle 2 of the CalTeacher Performance Assessment (CalTPA)
  • Obtain CPR Certification
