HIST 1016 Latin America: Past and Present

A survey of the origins and development of Latin America designed to introduce students to major ideas and events from Latin America’s past, including an understanding of its earliest indigenous civilizations to the present day, while synchronously connecting how these forces have shaped the people, politics, economics, and culture in these places today. This course will utilize methodologies which promote engagement with local and/or global communities to enhance civic knowledge and/or improve student civic skills relevant to Latin America. Since Latin America is often overlooked or misrepresented in the U.S. media, this course seeks to provide a foundational contextualization and promote understanding of the region and its people. Meets nursing requirements.
