PHIL 2102 Social Movements and Cultural Response
This course examines how humans respond to social injustice—through social movements, cultural response, and personal action. Using a sociological lens, we will analyze how social movements serve as collective responses to structural imbalances. Through community engagement, students will be guided to recognize diverse experiences within the American culture, and understand how our local community members are impacted and respond to social forces. Students will also explore cultural resistance and movement building strategies including the use of art, music, and embodied practices that empower people to address oppressive and inequitable social conditions. This course only satisfies the CORE requirement when offered as a service learning course.
