HONO 1001 Cultural Humility & Bilinguality
This class offers the opportunity to put your bilingual skills and cultural wealth into action. Students will learn about and practice the principles of cultural humility, an asset-based approach to social change that lifts up the voices and knowledge of people who are marginalized by the dominant culture and challenges unjust power dynamics. Community engagement activities will center around supporting San Rafael’s Canal community in addressing structural issues that have been exacerbated by Covid-19, such as digital literacy, enrichment education, healthcare access, mental health support, housing, and food insecurity. Course is designed for the Honors Global Learning Experience requirement. Students bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese are invited to register. Non-bilingual students with high enthusiasm are also welcomed to register.
