Academic Catalog 2020-21

ART 3018 Printmaking

Traditional printmaking is divided into four categories: Relief, Intaglio, Lithography, Silkscreen. Within each category a different type of printing matrix is created and the artist can pull multiple impressions from the matrix. In traditional printmaking the goal is to create a group of nearly identical impressions called an edition. However, for hundreds of years, artists have sought to bring a more spontaneous mark to the discipline of printmaking. Monoprinting creates a unique impression. In this class we will explore some aspects of the traditional categories of printmaking, and then introduce color, improvised mark making and further experimentation through monoprinting. **Additional fee applies.**
