Technology Requirements for MSOT and OTD Students

Occupational therapy students at Dominican University of California must have reliable access to appropriate technology to support coursework, communication, and participation in required activities such as online assessments and virtual learning platforms. Below is a summary of key technology requirements:

Hardware & Software Requirements

  • Students must follow Dominican University’s general hardware and software guidelines. Refer to the DUC Technology Requirements Section of the DUC website for details.
  • A Windows or Apple laptop is recommended (Chromebooks and tablets are not supported for all required software).
  • Laptops must have a webcam and microphone for online meetings and testing.
  • Students must have access to Microsoft Office (available through DUC) and other university-provided cloud applications such as Moodle, Google Suite, and Zoom.

Internet & Accessibility

  • Students need reliable internet access to participate in virtual coursework, testing, and communication.

Examsoft/ Examplify Requirements

As part of the MSOT and OTD programs, students will utilize ExamSoft, a secure examination platform, and its associated application, Examplify, for digital assessments.

Overview of ExamSoft & Examplify

  • ExamSoft: A comprehensive assessment platform. It facilitates the creation, administration, and analysis of exams, ensuring a rigorous and consistent assessment experience.
  • Examplify: The interface to access and undertake your digital examinations. It's engineered to provide a secure and stable examination environment.

Benefits of ExamSoft and Examplify:

  • Academic Integrity: Examplify's security measures ensure that all students are tested in a standardized environment, reducing the possibility of unfair advantages.
  • Efficiency and Flexibility: The platform allows you to take exams on your own computer, while maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
  • Data Protection: Upon completion, your responses are encrypted and securely transmitted for evaluation, ensuring confidentiality and integrity.

Using Examplify:

  • Installation: Students must install Examplify from the designated institutional link.
  • Access: Authentication is required using student credentials to access scheduled assessments
  • Submission: After completing an exam, responses are securely submitted for grading.

Technical Requirements & Recommendations:

Compatible Hardware & Operating System:

  • Students must have access to a laptop that meets ExamSoft’s minimum system requirements.
  • Chromebooks and tablets are NOT supported and cannot be used for testing.
  • Check ExamSoft System Requirements for the most up-to-date compatibility list.

Software & Internet Access:

  • Examplify must be installed to take digital exams.
  • A stable internet connection is required to download exams before testing and upload completed exams after submission.
  • Some exams require a secure testing environment, meaning students may need to disable certain applications before testing.

Accessibility & Backup Plan:

  • On-campus testing accommodations may be available for students who cannot obtain a personal compatible device.
  • Students are responsible for ensuring their device is functioning properly before an exam. Technical issues on personal devices will not be grounds for exam rescheduling.
  • It is recommended that students familiarize themselves with Examplify before their first exam to avoid technical difficulties.
