MUS 3021 Musical Cultures and Songwriting

Explore the rich musical tradition and cutting-edge cultures centered in London, England, one of the most diverse global cities. Investigate the musical styles from Classical to current and popular music, including Church Music, Orchestral Music, British Rock and Roll and West End Musicals as well as the immigrant/minority influenced music of Grime, Afrobeats and Bhangra. Learn to critically listen and write songs inspired by the music discussed. The course will culminate with the Spring Break trip to London to attend concerts, a West End Musical and visits to museums and many other cultural artifacts this amazing city offers.
