Community Action and Social Change (Minor)

The primary focus of the Community Action & Social Change minor is to prepare students to participate in collective efforts to create a more equitable, inclusive and sustainable society. While reflecting on their own social identities, sense of belonging, and civic responsibilities, students learn to critically analyze structural injustice to understand how larger social forces impact people’s life choices and everyday lived experiences. Students work alongside residents, service providers, and community leaders to practice academic concepts from the classroom and learn from the wisdom of our local communities

Program Learning Outcomes

Students who complete the minor will:

1. Reflect critically on their identity as a person, a professional, and a community member.
2. Analyze the relationship between agency and structures that produce inequity in diverse communities.
3. Articulate the links between well-being and social justice on multiple levels (personal, local, national, global).
4. Act creatively and collaboratively in diverse community contexts to promote social justice and address inequities.

Upper Division:
