PHIL 3124 Othering and Belonging

Examines forces that marginalize those who are different ("the Other") from the empowered majority in society. Historical examples along with current policies and discourses that perpetuate oppression will be contrasted with the power of lesser heard stories and the strength of vulnerable communities whose perspectives are vital to counter fears and dehumanization while creating more equitable structures for all. This course only satisfies the CORE requirement when offered as a service learning course.
