HCS 1102 Cultural Anthropology

The study of human culture and social organization from a cross-cultural perspective. Topics include kinship, religion and belief systems, cultural transmission, power and social control, racism, the environment, and social change. This course includes a focus on ethnography, the primary methodology of anthropological research, and explores the use of applied anthropology to advance civic knowledge and promote community engagement. Community-engagement may occur during scheduled class meetings or may be integrated into the overall homework expectation and course load. This course only satisfies the CORE requirement when offered as a service learning course. Meets nursing requirements.
