ENGL 1111 Writing and Rhetoric: Effective Communication I

Course teaches college level written and oral communication skills, with an emphasis on critical analysis and thinking, summary, synthesis, and research. Students learn to effectively read and create diverse forms of oral, digital, and visual communication, in addition to rigorously engaging the process of drafting, feedback and revision in order to produce their own well-designed, carefully researched essays for different audiences and purposes. With an emphasis on the conventions of reflective and critical modes of writing and public speaking, this course provides students with a foundation for communicative success in writing and speech in their college careers and beyond. The course may be offered as Service-Learning. Students must complete this course with a 'C' (2.0) or higher to fulfill the CORE requirement in Effective Communication.
