GPH 4450 International Health Research, Merida, Mexico

This course provides an opportunity for students to apply public health principles and develop research skills in an international setting. The course includes a four week summer immersion experience on the Yucatán peninsula in Mexico during which students will engage in primary data collection in a semirural community, analyze data, and report findings in a final group paper. Students will receive additional academic credit for a medical Spanish class offered by the partner university and will attend other medical lectures on the university’s campus. Spanish language learning and application will be highlighted. This course is open to students from other disciplines who are interested in community health. Prerequisite: consent of instructor.
