HONO 2056 The Scholar: Changing Cultures / New Identities

Globalization has redefined the contemporary world by creating exciting new forms of interconnection and mobility. This course explores the unique cultural identities that emerge when global migration patterns intersect with local communities. Students will compare and contrast how scholars from the fields of sociology, anthropology, literature, journalism, education and film analyze and understand cultural continuity and change among non-Western immigrant groups in the Unites States and Europe. The comparative design of the seminar allows students to consider how historically and geographically specific issues shape people’s understandings of cultural differences and group identity.
