FYE 1400 Business & Trade through the Lens of Big History

With the rise of multinational corporations, a global consumer culture is beginning to take shape. This course will examine the history of how the relationship between modern businesses and consumers has developed through the lens of economic activity and trade. Beginning with hunter/ gatherers and continuing until the present, we will look at such issues as wealth creation and what societies do with excess wealth, organization of labor, environmental impacts from business activity, the increasing complexity of business forms and trade relationships, and the role of the consumer. Prerequisite: FYE 1001 or FYE 2000.
