ARTH 3824 The Art of the Apocalypse

From medieval manuscript illustrations to modern films, artists and writers have long been inspired to depict the end of time – from dramatic visions of universal destruction to more cheerful visions of earthly and heavenly renewal. This course investigates the diverse ways in which apocalyptic art and literature have appeared through the ages, with special focus upon the interpretations of the biblical book of Revelation as well as selected other millenarian and utopian art from ancient to modern times.
