ENGL 3016 Shakespeare for Social Justice

Shakespeare for Social Justice is a distinctive curricular partnership with the Marin Shakespeare Company that bridges the study of literature with the restorative practices of theater to foster community-engaged learning and to affect social change through the performing arts. Specifically, students explore issues of social justice, especially at the intersection of race, class, and gender, in Shakespeares plays in an effort to bring the healing power of literature to incarcerated men and women in the California prison system. This course only satisfies the CORE requirement when offered as a service learning course.
