HUM 5230 Photography and the Environment
A tool of artists and activists as well as of the 'state,' photography has played a pivotal role in both the creation of empire and the critique of modern industrial society. Through the lens of several key theories and through careful examination of photographs, both historical and present day, we will undertake a close, critical examination of the intersection of photography, nationalism, and environmentalism.
